Today there are many choices when it comes to liposuction. The choices you have can be broken down between surgical and non surgical procedures. Surgical liposuction has been around for many years and is an established procedure. Much of the recent innovation has been coming in non-surgical liposuction, with the use of lasers, radio frequencies, and other fat busting techniques. After all liposuction just means sucking out the fat.
Surgical Liposuction Procedures
Surgical liposuction is the current standard when it comes to liposuction. The standard liposuction is a surgical procedure performed by a doctor with anaesthesia and surgical cutting of the skin to insert the cannula (small thin tube ) used to suck up the fat. It removes the target fat in one procedure.
When going for surgical liposuction there are a number of choices available. You can opt for an unassisted procedure or an assisted procedure. Two of the most popular variations are ultrasound-assisted liposuction and laser-assisted liposuction.
Both ultrasound-assisted and laser-assisted liposuction use the same process for removing fat: a cannula is inserted into the subcutaneous layer through a cut in the skin to remove fat. The ultrasound and lasers heat up the fat cells to make them easier to remove with the cannula. Heating up the fat cells to liquefy them can be helpful to remove fat in areas where the fat is more difficult to remove, such as the upper abdomen, sides and upper arms.
Surgical liposuction and the assisted varieties are popular and in common practice today. They are proven and effective ways to remove fat (See References below).
Non-Surgical Liposuction Procedures
Non-surgical liposuction is the latest trend in liposuction for a variety of reasons. First, it is much less expensive that traditional liposuction. You can get treatments over time, so they are easy to fit into a busy schedule. Ever heard of a “lunch lipo”? Additionally they are less expensive and more convenient. No lost time from work and people can easily schedule them during work-day lunch breaks.
By far the most popular alternative to standard surgical liposuction is laser liposuction. Non-surgical laser lipo heats up the fat, breaking up the fat cells. The dead cells are then expelled by the body through the body’s natural detoxifying process. The fat is heated up and expelled by the immune system.
An alternative to laser heating is laser cooling. Laser cooling liposuction uses the laser to freeze the fat to kill the cells. Once the cells reach a certain temperature, they die and are flushed from the body. The general idea is the same as the laser heating methods: use a laser to zap the fat cells and have the body remove them naturally.

Which Type Of Liposuction to Choose?
Standard Lipo
If you have a lot of fat to remove over large parts of your body, then the standard surgical liposuction may be something you should consider. If you have more modest amounts of fat and want to target specific areas of the body, you should go with a non-invasive procedure like laser lipo. Surgical liposuction is much more expensive than non-surgical liposuction. You can get a lot removed at one time with surgery paying a lump sum, or stretch out the payments with non-surgical liposuction and get similar results at a lower cost.
Laser Lipo
When you choose to have laser lipo, you are not having surgery. You get results over time and you can conveniently schedule your appointments. When choosing laser lipo there are a number of systems that are proven and do the job. Laser lipo is best suited for people whose goals are to remove fat in specific areas of the body, such as lower abdomen, upper arms, or on the sides (love handles).
A Good Time To Be Slimming
Most of the liposuction systems today are effective. The choice you make will come down to the goals you want to achieve, and the cost. However, regardless of which type you choose, you still need to work on improving your diet and get more exercise if you want to keep the fat off. Surgical liposuction does not guarantee any more than laser liposuction that the fat will stay away if you do not change some of your habits.
